This week we got to go on 2 exchanges, which was pretty fun. The first one I went with Elder Hamby’s companion, Elder Lloyd. He’s a good guy. We played a little bit of soccer and he slipped into the mud and I about died laughing. He’s a really good kid and was in the MTC w/ Elder Owens.

We got to teach a guy from the Chuukese Islands on Tuesday. His name is Paul, and we had an awesome lesson with him. We talked about how his reading is going in the Book of Mormon and he started off by saying that he and his wife read it together. He talks about how their relationship has improved and it was awesome. Then, we asked him how he felt the 1st time he read it. He said he felt goosebumps and peace, and it was so cool to see how it was blessing his family and their relationship.

We also had a meeting on Tuesday in Independence, MO where we also got to listen to the Prophet’s devotional given at BYU. It was pretty good.

I also got to go on exchanges with Elder Morita, and that was pretty fun. He’s a really good guy and we had a good time working. It was cool because neither of the elders that are usually here enjoy basketball, but they just baptized this 17 year old kid who loves it. We were trying to get in contact with him, so we met up on a court and balled up and it was really fun. I felt like there was a reason I was sent there for the day, even though it was something so small. But we got absolutely disgusting [sweaty] because of it. Absolutely soaked and just brown [with dirt]. But totally worth it.

On Saturday, we went and visited the Honduran family we found a while ago that were already members. We are teaching the mom’s sister, who isn't a member. The mom is going through a lot of pain in her hands and toes. Long story. Anyways, they just live in the dumps and work in the dumps and they asked for a blessing and we gave her one and it was so spiritual and powerful. Then her sister got one too! The spirit was so strong and it was a really cool experience. I know I was sent to this area for that family in part.

We had 4 people come to church yesterday! It’s lit!

We got a text from Roger, a guy we are teaching (and he is so solid) saying how happy he has been since we shared the Plan of Salvation with him. He is such a good, humble guy and is super prepared.

I met a former iguana hunter yesterday from Honduras. He’s a G.

That’s about it for the week. I love you and thank you for everything! I love you!

Elder Owens and Elder Ogden eating hot peppers

Sister Andrade sent these pictures to me (Elder Ogden's mom). Her family took Elder Owens and him out for his 20th birthday! How sweet is that?!

Kansas City, Kansas sky at night

This week was a pretty good one. On Tuesday the Andrades took us out to lunch, which was really good and really nice of them. It was a really good day of work too. We got to teach a lot of people, including an awesome part member fam. The wife was baptized a long time ago. They are in their early 20s, we think. They have a lot of promise!

We got to have interviews with President Love on Thursday which went really well. He is always such a wise guy. Concerning me staying or leaving the Kaw [for my last transfer], I think I'm staying, but I’m not sure. President Love said that I will probably stay because he doesn't like breaking up trainees from their trainers, so I'm hoping to stay, but we’ll see. I love Elder Owens.

Same day we met a man named Francisco from Cuba who wore 2 pairs of underwear. That's it…at the same time. But the nicest dood in the world and just let us in his house and showed us all his pictures and stuff… haha he’s so funny.

We street contacted into a lady a while ago and we set up an appt with her and it turns out that she is a member that was baptized in Mexico named Maria! Anyways she ended up telling us a story about getting sucked up into a sewer drain. That's Mexico for ya.

We ate at GG’s, that lil’ restaurant, 2 times this week it was awesome! When members cant feed us, they will send us there. Nice.

There were a lot of just straight sucky parts of this week, but that's the cool thing. If you focus on the garbage, you're gonna see and feel garbage. But if you focus on the good, you're gonna see good. Just like how the promise is if we focus on Christ, we’ll have the spirit with us. Simple.

Little kids are so funny man, they crack me up. We get to meet a bunch of ‘em that just get here from Honduras that don’t speak any English and it's my favorite! They're so funny.

Octopus is gross. Nuff said. Not a big fan. Texture is weird.

We found a mouse in our apartment, so that's an L. [RIP Timmy]

I love you and thanks for everything…sorry for the short email today.

Me and Elder Owens, who I just love

Good food with a fun family ... and he and Elder Owens switched name tags for a hot minute ... Zack's brother is Owen...it all works out, right?

I don't have much time today, sorry.

This week was something. It started off with us getting the car taken away because there was a giant mix up in the office here [with paperwork]…and yeah it was awful haha. We loved that car. But it was a good learning experience.

We gotta call 911 this week! This guy was just stopped in the middle of an intersection chillin. And he wouldn't talk. I think he was having a stroke or something. So yeah. They came super quick though!

We taught this guy with a naked chick tattooed on his forearm. Turns out, recently he is going through a real change of heart and one of the nicest, good intentioned people I've ever met! Don’t judge people by their looks!

We taught this guy named Roger, who is just battling through heck right now because he’s tryna come closer to Christ, which is nuts to say, but seriously. His ex gf just showed up, his work is exploding, etc. It’s crazy man. Absolutely nuts. But such a good guy and he recognizes [the adversary working extra hard on him since he is trying to change his life].

Yesterday we got to go give this lady with cancer the sacrament for probably the last time. She is from Chihuahua. She just looks so drained. Just so tired. I felt so bad for her.

In short, it was a pretty long week with a lot of good, but mostly bad…haha but it was pretty fun. Sometimes suffering is actually hilarious and needed.

Do you remember that Honduran family we met a while ago? Yesterday, the [men] were sustained to be Priests! It was awesome!

We get to visit this family who has a lot of cute kids. One of their little girls is named Sauri. She is the cutest little girl; she looks like Boo from Monsters Inc. But she loves me and Elder Owens and we have a ton of fun! haha They're so funny and pure.

I love these people. I love you so much.

A gentleman that we have been able to serve in Kansas City, KS

An incredibly strong individual who we have been able to visit and give blessings at KU Med

Some of the delicious food that people give us

Hello! Thank you so much for the email(s). I really appreciate it and I'm glad that everything is going well at home.

So I have this irrational fear of dogs now haha and so it's always sketch because they are EVERYWHERE around here. So, on Tuesday in my studies, I read the part in my patriarchal blessing where it says that I will be protected. Later we were walking the streets, when all of a sudden this giant dog just starts running at us. Usually, I run cause idk I'm a wuss. But this time I just stood still. This dog came running and it barked at my hand and that's it. Idk what it was but it was crazy. Miracle. I can't really describe it haha.

We walked a ton on Wednesday. It was crazy man. When we were walking we found a number on the road with the name "cookie". So we called him and taught him the 1st lesson. He wasn't interested, but hey it was kinda cool.

We get fed so much. Every time we go to people’s house, they just dump food in our faces! It's kinda nice, but sometimes ya just can't take any more food. So full.

On Thursday we had Zone Conference and I got to see a ton of my mission friends. It was sweet. We do this ]presentation] thing for all the missionaries who are leaving each transfer, so Elder Hamby gave his and it was pretty good. I love that guy.

We also got a new car at Zone Conference. It’s a brand new Rav 4 and the thing is like a spaceship, it's crazy nice.

After Zone Conference we took the Chapel Hill missionaries home. I used the bathroom and while I was in there Elder Hamby came in and just doused me with Febreze. So, naturally, I shoved the whole roll of toilet paper down the toilet and then peaced out. Sadly, I think we both lost.

It's been a pretty busy week and we've had a lot of success!

Elder White before he completed his mission and went home.

Elder Ogden and his new companion, Elder Owens, with Juan's family

Juan's family...his wife has prayed for this day for over 15 years!

--------

I love Elder Owens, my new companion. He is so funny and such a hard worker and a quick learner. He is fresh out of the MTC and from Durango, Colorado. I tease him [in fun] for being a hick haha. He just likes to hunt and fish and basketball. It's been so fun so far. He is so good at just laughing when he makes mistakes and moving on. Such a good kid.

I love my new comp, probably one of my favorites so far, but it was sad to see Elder White leave. On Wednesday he worked his butt off and munched. We taught like 20 million people and he was just loving life. Just good hard work. I think that man is one of the best missionaries to ever live, honestly.

The baptism went super well and it was awesome to see Juan baptized. The water was pretty cold, but we got in the bathroom to change and he said he didn’t even feel it. He also mentioned he felt less weight. Just better. It was awesome to see and hear.

During my studies I learned a lot about diligence and how we diligently seek when our desires are in the right place. It was super uplifting and made more sense in my head. Ha

Another cool experience I had this week was yesterday at the KU med hospital. This man is going through chemo. A couple of weeks ago we gave him a blessing and he had a full head of hair and looks like he was doing good. Now, his hair was mostly gone and he seemed so tired. His throat hurt so bad he couldn't even take the bread. We gave him a cup and he painfully took a sip. And then went back for another. Idk it was just kind of poetic.

Got to talk to this kid from Uganda. He was cool. We also talked to this guy who was looking for some money he lost. In the process, he went to kick something into the sewer drain, and he kicked his slipper into the drain haha. Then it rained. Whatta bad day.

We got to do a lot of service as well.

That's the week. I love you.

Elder Ogden, Elder White, Little Juan, Elder Morita, and Elder Sickler

We’ve had to do a ton of stuff today that has made it hard to have any time today to write… haha sorry.

This week we got to go do a baptismal interview for Santa Fe and I got to see one of my good friends from that ward! It was awesome.

We had to fight off like 20 dogs this week. It was nutz man. I never have seen anything like this haha.

Juan is getting baptized this Saturday! I'm so excited! He is such a good dood. I love that man. It's gonna be so fun.

We saw a ton of parties on Saturday and people just gave us a ton of tacos while we were walking around. Some of them were so good. A good quote a drunk guy told me was "8 horas trabajas. 8 horas duermes. 8 horas VIVES". Deep stuff.

We met a lot of Hondurans again and so it's sweet. I love them so much.

On Friday we went on exchanges with the Chapel Hill Elders. I went with Elder Hamby’s companion. He doesn't speak Spanish and goes home this week. At dinner he didn't understand what was going on and so I told him if he didn't eat all of his food and more she wouldn't let us come back. He ate and was about to throw up… it was awesome. Ha!

Today we went to KC Joe's for lunch and it was really good. I got a Z Man and it was fantastic.

I'm sorry for the trash email. I will give you a good one next week I promise.

This week we did not have a car, because it was ‘Walk Week’, and that poses a problem when you are supposed to cover the whole stake…haha…but it was fun to just walk around and we saw a lot of miracles. On Monday we talked to a guy who took the lessons about 15 years ago in Mexico, and he remembered Gordon B Hinckley. Something I’m noticing is that this man is the reason for a lot of people getting baptized. Some people say that the first time they saw his picture, they knew he was a prophet and felt the Spirit so strong.

On Monday night, we did exchanges with The Chapel Hill Elders. I went with Elder Hamby to Chapel Hill and it was pretty fun. I love that guy. We went to the chapel that morning so he could watch his grandma’s funeral over Skype. He is such a good dood. After that, we went to Chick-Fil-A, which I had 3 days in a row this week... We got to teach a 19 year old recent convert named Yuri who was pretty cool.

Wednesday was probably the most nuts day of my entire life. We started off by dropping Elder White and Elder Moore off at the library so they could do some stuff called “My Plan” which just preps you for going home. Then Elder Hamby and I went and gave a blessing to some people at KU Med. They were super cool. The guy has cancer, but it seems that it’s very likely it will be treated well and cured. We had to go into this part of the hospital that is air sealed and everything, because he doesn’t have a lot of white blood cells to fight off diseases and all that good stuff. After that, I went and gave one of the hardest baptismal interviews of my life. I can’t really share anything, but the person who is going to get baptized has gone through literally everything.

The person got baptized on Saturday, and I am so glad about it. They have been the most prepared person ever and have applied the doctrine of Christ fully; it was awesome to see.

That night, our ride to a lesson with our most solid person 25 minutes away (driving) cancels 15 minutes after we were supposed to be at the appointment. Rip. So Elder White called almost everyone in the ward while we were walking the streets. No answer. He is on the phone with someone and this stupid dog starts coming at us, super mad, and so I started charging at it while Elder White is on the phone. The dog was kind of circling us and barking and then all of a sudden it just puked its guts out right there on the street. SO much puke. It was pretty funny and honestly probably the highlight of that day.

Anyways, no one could get us to the lesson at the Corona’s house (getting baptized on the 24th btw), so we Face-timed him while in the ghetto walking around at like 8:45 pm. We find a bench to sit on. We are teaching him (in Spanish) and this old white lady comes out of her apartment and asked Elder White who we are and he tells her while I am teaching Juan. The lady goes back inside and then comes out again and tells us to leave. We ask her to give us like 2 minutes and she yells at us and tells us she’s gonna get the other neighbors. Then she goes inside and comes back out and does it again. Then she goes inside, and this time she comes back out, just yelling and cussing at us to get the ** outta there. So, because the person we were teaching could hear it, we started walking up the street (luckily Juan doesn’t speak like any English haha.) We were off the apartment property, and she was still yelling at us!! Telling us they didn’t need church people or Spanish speakers there. We were literally doing nothing to her. She just yelled at us as long as she could see us. It was one of the most frustrating things ever haha but it was pretty funny. but yeah, what a day.

On Thursday we had a pretty sweet lesson with Carmen, who is going to get baptized on September 14th. We brought a recently returned missionary with us, who is the only member in her family. At first, she was a little hesitant to get baptized because she wanted to know more, but when she saw how Luis, the RM was, we think she wanted that change in her and her son too. It was an awesome lesson.

We also ran into a lady who just moved here from Chihuahua Mexico, who is a member! She was walking with her family when we first met her. She is living here with her husband, who has lived here like 15 years, and he isn’t a member, so this should be really good! She came to church on Sunday and is really cool. Then, right after that, we got a text from Juan, saying "ya no tomo" WHICH MEANS THAT MAN ISN’T DRINKING COFFEE HALLELUJAH It was sweet.

On Friday we walked for like 10 years to get to a referral’s house. When we got there, we met this Honduran guy who is probably the most humble human being on the planet. We talk him while his family was visiting from Honduras and it went really well. He is also fairly wealthy. He drives a pretty nice Range Rover, has a nice house (even though it’s in the middle of the ghetto) and a sweet motorcycle, and is still so humble. He works in concrete and does not speak a lot of English, but still went to an English ward like 2 weeks ago. He is trying to get closer to God and I can’t wait to see him progress. He is so cool.

On Saturday we were walking to an appointment and there was this crazy dood just yelling at everything walking with this girl. Elder White asked him if he needed help. He politely responded with "No I f*** don’t." Elder White then said "Ok, well can I give you a little card?" He then, SO POLITELY, said "you cant give me s** homeboy." I don’t know why, but I almost cried laughing. The man was so angry over nothing haha!

We met this really drunk guy who said he was from Portugal. He said this in Spanish and was clearly from Mexico. We asked him which part of Portugal he was from and he said, "se me olvido" which is, “I forgot”. The moral of the story is to not drink. Ha!

[I have learned that] we can’t make decisions for anyone else, and it’s supposed to be that way, but we can love them and bring them closer to Christ so that they have the desire to change. Avoiding drama and being kind is what we have covenanted to do at baptism. In Sacrament meeting, someone quoted President Monson (I think) and they said "treat people as they can become, not as they are." If we just see people without their potential, that’s what brings us to gossip and hate, a lack of charity. But the opposite of that brings great results. Repentance is real, so we all good!

There were a ton of miracles and it was a great week. I love you and thanks for your example.

A sweet sister who gave Elders White and Ogden sunflowers from her garden

Elder Morita and Elder Ogden serving at Kansas University Medical Center

-----

This week was a pretty good one and kind of a hard one, but it was pretty rewarding. On Monday, we stumbled into a homeless trap house! Whatta place!

I think I've learned 2 major things this week.

1. Something I learned at Zone Conference is everything we do should be based with faith in God. If we are doing anything, we should view it how he would view it. If we view our efforts as less than others, we're gonna feel like we suck. But if we view our efforts as God views them, we will be fine, as long as we try our hardest and improve. So block out the fakes.

2. People who have member connections are money! We have found a ton of them!

On Monday we were walking home. It was pretty late, but I just felt carried up to this door, even though we were mostly just street contacting. A hispanic guy opened up and we talked for a bit. Then he mentioned that he had literally just gotten off a video call with some elders in Arizona, where his wife, who is a member, lives! He is being taught and prepping for baptism and it definitely wasn't a coincidence that we found him that night.

Tuesday kinda sucked! There wasn't a lot of Hispanics. It was a humbling day, we talked to a Mexican dood named Jonah who liked Trump and went on a political rant, which was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

We also taught a referral from some other elders named Kevin. He was a really nice guy. We taught him and started teaching the Restoration. It was going great! As soon as we said Joseph Smith though the wife kicked us out. Nice!

We are teaching a man named Antonio, who plays in a Norteño band! He is super cool and a really good guy. Tuesday night, we stopped by to teach him. He was in the back, working on a van. We asked him what was up and he explained to us that a couple nights before, at like 2 in the morning, somebody stole his work van with all his tools in it and everything. He even had a steering wheel lock and everything. A lot of security on it, yet they just grabbed it and bounced. So sad. He was devastated and the cops couldn't help him because he didn't have the vehicle ID # memorized, which is a giant number. Poor guy.

Wednesday was also kind of slow. We met quite a few people, including a 16 year old kid from Honduras who broke his arm the day before in a car accident. He wasn't entirely conscious, but he was a super nice kid.

We got to interrupt a JW's lesson! We went to try a recent convert and their neighbors were outside, so we went to talk to them. They lady that lives there and is from Chuk (Chook), which is from Micropolynesia. Anyways, she speaks no English, and these poor Jehovah Witness have been trying to learn her language without the gift of tongues. I don't speak Chukeese, but it was terrible. It was like 1 word every 5-10 seconds, and they couldn't even understand the Chukeese lady. Nice people though and we gave the lady being "taught" by the JW's a pass along card.

Since we serve KU Med in our area, we get asked to give quite a few blessings. It's always a really cool experience to feel so guided in a blessing like that. This week there was a man who has a bunch of gastrointestinal problems and he has a brain tumor. They were nonmembers, but they had so much faith it was pretty cool to see people like that. And their faith wasn't related to some church, but to Christ and they were so open to learning more. I think because of that, the Lord is going to bless them with some amazing things that were promised in the blessings.

I went on exchanges with Elder Morita from Hawaii and he is awesome. It was a pretty fun exchange. We both are just kinda lighthearted guys and so it was a fun time. We went and did service for a blind and deaf man. We communicate by typing on a screen in big letters and then he holds it up really close to his face and then he will just talk to us. His upstairs is infested by raccoons, so that was a weird sight.

This week a crazy white guy was talking to me and so when Elder White came up I asked if I could translate for him in Spanish. So we pretended Elder White didn't speak English and it was pretty fun.

We had tons of people come to church yesterday. It was awesome. We are teaching so many families and I love to see how they grow so well together. It was awesome. We are teaching quite a few part Member families. One of them we are probably going to have to give to the sisters because we think we offended him by being too straight up...

The wife of someone we are teaching went up to go bear her testimony yesterday and told the whole ward how when we were going to go over on Wednesday, he left work early. He never leaves work early, and so they wanted to go to a movie or something. But they let us come over instead. That night we put Juan on date for the 24th. As she was saying this, she started bawling. Her husband has been coming to church on and off for about 15 years, and this was an answer to her prayers. It was so cool to feel how we could be tools in the Lord's hands.

Well that's about it for this week. I'm livin a good life. I love you; thank you for everything.

Kansas City, Kansas

Zone Conference

Elder Hamby on the far left on the day of the baptism from last week

Funny for the week - Translation: Please help us keep Lake Welborn clean.
Private Lake. No fishing.
------

This week was definitely one for the books.

On Monday I had a prompting, while driving, to pull over and knock this house. Honestly, I pushed it off, just thinking it was me spazzin out, but we did it anyways. We went and knocked the house, but no one was there. Then we saw a little girl playing in the neighbor’s front yard. If there's a little girl, there's parents. As we were walking up to talk to them, we saw the grandma chillin, but then the parents rolled in at that exact moment. We helped them with their groceries and then taught them the Restoration. His name is Anne and he and his family are from Honduras. He has just recently started joining a church and learning about Christ and loved what we had, and the spirit was so strong you could've cut it with a knife. It was awesome and a great experience.

I’ve had a couple of moments on my missions where I realize that holy crap I got it good. One of these was this day. We were walking on a street and meet Serena. She had 2 black eyes and bruises everywhere. She mentioned how her situation was so hard, but it was even harder to leave it. Dad once shared with me the idea that "by the grace of God but I go" or in other words, God only knows and it is His grace and plan, not our worthiness that puts us into our birth situations. I just feel so bad, and we will hopefully be teaching her soon.

After that lesson, we were walking back to the car, because we were on our way to an appointment when we pulled over, and we saw this dood walking with his shirt tied around his head like a ninja and wearing a wife beater with a backpack on backwards. We started talkin, and he was a cool dood, but he had a giant bag of coke in the bag with a pistol. He was calm as day. It was crazy man haha. OK sorry…don't be scared I probably shouldn't of told you that one. Haha!

That same day, we taught Francisco, who is struggling. Being an immigrant and all, it's hard to make ends meet. He is struggling, but we got the chance to just promise him he can find his answer when he reads the Book of Mormon and humbles himself.

On Wednesday, we had to go to a Firestone to get our oil changed. All the ones in our area were packed, so we had to go to a different ward boundary. When we got there, instead of just sitting down and waiting, Elder White gets us to get out and just start walking and talking to people. Idk why, because the area is a very wealthy area, but we must've talked to the only Spanish people in that whole area. Just such a miracle. Then, we saw a guy sitting in his car. We went up to talk to him, and it turns out he’s a lost sheep, or a member whose records aren't here and no one knows where they are. His mom is also a member, but his wife and kid aren't. LIT that's a part Member family. Such a miracle how we found them.

Then we got to teach Juan Corona, who is another part Member family, who might be the most prepared human being ever. KAW RIVER IS ON FIRE BABY.

Then we had Zone Conference. It was nice.

Do you remember that Honduran family of members that we found out of a miracle a couple weeks ago? They came to church and are on the path to getting sealed in the temple. Mom, I love this work. It's the best thing I've ever done.

We met with Edson, who is another lost sheep from Honduras, whose wife and son aren't members! We got to talk about eternal families and temples and they loved it as we taught the restoration. Thus this is the best thing ever.

We had a lesson with Iván and Karina. Also Spanish. Karina is a member, but they aren't married bc of some paperwork stuff that could be fixed, but it's not his priority right now. Or at least it wasn't then. Karina is the sweetest lady ever, read the BoM every day, etc. We went in and had a really spiritual lesson. We got to kneel down and ask for a miracle. We are going to fast next week so that he can get his paperwork done and submitted by Aug 24th. They now know of the blessings they are missing out on and the sun they are committing, so hey let's see.

A recent convert in Santa Fe is going on a mission! He messaged me on Saturdat and I was pumped. He sends me some good memes every once in a while haha.

We also got some free Barbacoa on Saturday morning for breakfast. It was way good and nice of the man.

I love this… these are the best days of my life.

I love you and can't thank you enough for everything you do.
